SciSports succesfully tests BallJames in full-stadium environment

SciSports is proud to announce that last Sunday, during the Eredivisie match between Heracles Almelo and ADO Den Haag, the company successfully tested the BallJames system in a full-stadium environment with 14 synchronized cameras. The system will be used to generate accurate data about the position and movements of the ball, players and referees.

Giels Brouwer, Founder and CEO of SciSports: “This is an amazing day for SciSports and a big step into the future. This technology can revolutionize the world of football and the way clubs and managers work. With the successful launch we will now move into the next phase of the project. As chef de mission, but also as a football lover, I am very excited about the advancements made so far. It’s great to see how the crew worked before, during and after the match. The BallJames team and the entire company can be proud of their performance.”

Gerrit Jan van Ahee, Chief Technical Officer of SciSports: “This is the first time that a professional football match has been recorded with this level of accuracy. With these images we can generate a great amount of statistical data without any human intervention and more important, human errors. The next step is to record more matches and improve the way we process the data. Now we have to accelerate the process, making it real-time. Eventually, managers can utilize the data to spot certain aspects they might have missed and use that information to improve during the match.”

Rik Heschle, projectmanager BallJames: “Over the last two weeks the team has performed brilliantly getting everything set up in time. We encountered some small issues along the way, but we succeeded on having everything fully operational for the match. The first half went great, without any hiccups, and besides a problem with the power, the second half also went flawless. The feeling after the final whistle was amazing, the system worked exactly as intended. Now we have to take the next hurdle. The data we have obtained will have to be worked on and the prototype will have to be developed into a fully functioning and refined system. But this is absolutely a great first step.”
